To Whom It May Concern,

I Garry Lourensz as a seafarer was a member of Stella Maris in Darwin from the 1980's until it's closure.

During this time there were a lot of fishermen seafarers and members of several unions using this facility.  Seafarers inparticular hold these venues dear to themselves as they were often a place of friendship and help in what is a lonely existence.  Therefore the Stella Maris is a unique historical venue to many people in Darwin and abroad.  Unions have a recorded of using this venue in these ways.

In this history of this venue it would surprise you how many isolated workers have taken solace and been given much needed help.  Many seafarers where given accomodation and help being placed on vessels with the help of the unions.

With this in mind I submit as a 50year Darwin local that this venue should remain as is, and may well one day prove as useful as it has been in the past.

Regards,
